ELD raises election expenses cap to S$5 per elector; updates minority candidate requirements in GRCs

ELD Increases Election Expenses Cap and Updates Minority Candidate Requirements

On 27 March, the Elections Department (ELD) announced that the maximum election expenses per elector will increase from S$4 to S$5. The reason cited for this adjustment was inflation.

Changes in GRC Minority Candidate Requirements

ELD also confirmed new requirements for minority candidates in Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs). The newly created Pasir Ris-Changi GRC must have at least one minority candidate. In addition, Punggol and Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRCs are mandated to include an Indian or other minority candidate in their line-up.

The adjustments in election expense limits and minority candidate requirements were detailed in an announcement by the Elections Department.
